Design Basics: Points Pt 1
Today, I decided to get back to the basics, as I feel it is very easy to think you already have these basics mastered. So I set about constructing an elementary design course from various sources. Starting with Jonanthon Itten’s ‘Design and Form: The Basic Course at the Bauhaus and Later’ along with Ellen Luptons ‘Graphic Design: The New Basics’, I set out trying to explore the idea of the point in space. Both books talk about the importance of this seemingly obvious element. Here are some visuals I came up with while exploring the idea of the point. As is pointed out within their books, a point is not necessarily a round dot, it can be a square or a droplet shape, as in the example below. I do feel I learned from this exercise and I will continue doing a few more of these later this evening, I also learned a little bit more about the use of illustrator. The next exercise will be on line.
