Final Project Research

Here is some of the visual materials I have collected during my research.

Macro Photography

After reading up on how to get hold of cheap lenses, I came across a very effective and cheap solution to buying a macro, reverse the lens you are using… simple as that. I held my 18-55mm lens the wrong way round and tried to take some photos. Some of them work, others not so much, but its a really beautiful way of creating images. I am ordering a mounting ring so I can mount it without holding it on. Most of these were taken at 18mm. Anyway, check them out and try it yourself.

MTV Logo Rebrand

As part of Jo’s workshop we were to redesign the MTV logo, as the recent version was such a boring affair. So here is mine.

Design Basics: Itten Contrasts Part 1

Here are some early examples of ittens contrasts. I will do more of these.

Design Basics: Points Pt 1

Today, I decided to get back to the basics, as I feel it is very easy to think you already have these basics mastered. So I set about constructing an elementary design course from various sources. Starting with Jonanthon Itten’s ‘Design and Form: The Basic Course at the Bauhaus and Later’ along with Ellen Luptons ‘Graphic Design: The New Basics’, I set out trying to explore the idea of the point in space. Both books talk about the importance of this seemingly obvious element. Here are some visuals I came up with while exploring the idea of the point. As is pointed out within their books, a point is not necessarily a round dot, it can be a square or a droplet shape, as in the example below. I do feel I learned from this exercise and I will continue doing a few more of these later this evening, I also learned a little bit more about the use of illustrator. The next exercise will be on line.

Editorial Illustration pt 3 Final

no3

So here is the final for part 3 of editorial illustration. I feel this piece almost works, but maybe I wont ever board on the cracked effects.

Editorial Rough 3

robostrip

Here is the rough for the third editorial piece, in the final piece the robots at the stage edge will be recognisable characters like C3P0 and Short Circuit

Editorial Illustration 2: Final

no-shoes

So here it is, the final piece, I dont like it nearly as much as the last one, but I was also trying to not spend over 10 hours on it this time also. I think it still feels a little flat, but its okay.
